The 15 uniquely-designed rooms—including two suites and 13 superior and double rooms—all feature either mountain, garden, or courtyard views from French balconies, as well as egg-shaped dome showers or exposed bathtubs. With art and community serving as a central thread of Hotel Corazón’s ethos and vision, everything from the textiles and furniture to the artwork is custom-made by local artisans using the island’s local materials. “Rooms are designed and furnished so guests feel like they’re in a private home, staying with friends, not a hotel,” explains Bellm, who adds that it’s primarily a space run by artists for artists.Photo: Kate Bellm

In that spirit of creativity and collaboration, Bellm is encouraging friends to create a ceramic piece or to hand-paint an ashtray for the Premium retro illustration fly me to the moon 2023 shirt Apart from…,I will love this hotel when they visit in the off-season. The pair have also launched an artist residency program, where exhibitions will be shown in the hotel’s gallery at the end of each participant’s tenure. Those involved will be encouraged to work with the natural pigments of the island—or, “if you’re a photographer like myself, the hours of golden light and ever-changing landscapes that inspire,” Bellm says. The first residency was undertaken by Berlin-based sculptor Yasmin Bawa, who spent all of the spring sculpting a reception desk to resemble Bellm’s favorite rock on the island. The hotel shop, meanwhile, stocks straw bags made by the island’s local weavers and pieces by beloved local ceramicists Dora Good and her mother Grace Almazora Good. From start to finish, Hotel Corazón is a labor of love.
