When brands say, “There’s no demand, there’s not a need,” it’s always a slap in the Official cat of course I’m in shape round is a shape shirt also I will do this face to plus consumers because it takes part of our identity away. I didn’t feel like I had good style until the industry caught up with me. I want to be able to have another resource for us to cultivate how we want to be present in the world and feel as good as everybody else. So when I went to them and when we talked, it was something that they were working on and knew they needed to do. I was able to advocate expanding past a 3X to a 4X and for the imagery to reflect the plus community, and again, I was skeptical, but H&M delivered.More broadly, where do you want to see size inclusion in the fashion industry five years from now? Or to use a turn of phrase from earlier: What are you jaded about but hopeful for?

I want to see 5X/6X sizing and more body diversity in print ads and not in a performative way, not just one plus-size model but multiple plus-size models and multiple models of color. I truly do believe that if brands actually care about plus-size consumers, they’re going to have to either step up or get out of the way because there’s so many amazing designers who are emerging that are prioritizing plus-size. And brands like H&M that are saying, in the wake of people kind of dismissing us, “We care, and this is what we’re doing to fix it.” I hope that more people follow suit. I am in my blazer era, and even though I often have fit issues with my arms, I can genuinely say that their outerwear fits me. I recently got a letterman jacket in a 4X that fits perfectly. I love their ribbed cropped tanks and that the oversized tees truly are oversized without needing to size up. It’s a lot of wardrobe staples, where I’m like, I can actually wear this, and it’s actually going to be cute.
